Remembering Anne

I was proud to represent OIX and the internet identity community and the wake and funeral of Anne Smedinghoff, daughter of OIX counsel, Tom Smedinghoff. Anne, a U. S. Foreign Service Officer, died in the service of her country as she was traveling with a group to deliver books to a local school in the Zabul Province of Afghanistan. Tom Smedinghoff has been a thought leader in the online identity community and has served both on the Advisory Board and as legal counsel to OIX. On behalf of all its members, OIX will honor Anne and her work for peace with a donation to the School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA), an organization dedicated to furthering education and leadership opportunities in Afghanistan and the world for the new generation of Afghanistan, especially for women. We should all live such a successful life as Anne.

To laugh often and much,
To win the respect of intelligent people,
And the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics,
And endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty,
To find the best in others,
To leave the world a bit better,
Whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,
Or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier,
Because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
